The Delta Meadows Classification and General Plan work will set goals for the property, document existing conditions, analyze constraints, and develop design concepts alternatives that include classification. Public participation will be invited at several different stages of the work, including during the EIR process. All work will be presented to the State Parks and Recreation Commission for consideration and approval.

What is Park Classification?

Park Classification helps determine the purpose of a park and the range of conservation, recreation, and management activities that are appropriate. New parks can be classified as a State Recreation Area, State Park, State Historic Park, State Seashore, State Reserve, State Wilderness, or Marine Managed Area as described in the California Public Resources Code, Division 5, Chapter 1, Article 1.7, and each classification can include one or more subclassifications, depending on the resources present within the property. Sub-classifications include Natural Preserve and Cultural Preserve.

What is a General Plan?

A General Plan defines a purpose, vision, goals, and guidelines for a park’s future. The Plan informs day-to-day decisions and paves the way for more focused management actions that will benefit the park, its resources, visitors, and staff.

What is an Environmental Impact Report (EIR)?

As required by the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), a State Parks General Plan is accompanied by an Environmental Impact Report (EIR). An EIR informs the public of the significant environmental effects of a project, ways to minimize them, and reasonable alternatives to the project. The Delta Meadows Classification and General Plan will include a programmatic EIR. CEQA requirements for future work on specific projects within Delta Meadows will be determined for each individual project.
